Finding your perfect golf weather
Everything you need to know about Golfability scores, the Optimal Play Window, wind-adjusted distances, and all the tools Golfer WX offers for 16,500+ US golf courses.
A Golfability score is Golfer WX's proprietary rating from 1 to 10 that measures how ideal current weather conditions are for playing golf. A score of 10 means perfect playing conditions, while lower scores indicate less favorable weather. The score factors in temperature (ideal: 65-80°F), wind speed, precipitation probability, UV index, and humidity. You'll see Golfability scores on every course page, in the hourly forecast, and across the 14-day outlook so you can plan the best time to play.
The Golfability score combines multiple weather variables into a single 1-10 rating. Temperature contributes the most-65-80°F is ideal. Wind speed is factored next: under 10 mph is great, over 20 mph penalizes the score heavily. Precipitation probability, UV index, and humidity round out the formula. Each factor is weighted based on its real-world impact on playability, and the final score is updated every 15 minutes with fresh weather data.
The Optimal Play Window highlights the best consecutive hours to tee off based on combined weather conditions. Golfer WX analyzes the hourly forecast-temperature, wind, rain probability, and Golfability score-and identifies the time block with the highest overall conditions. Look for it on any course page to answer the key question: "When should I play today?"
The Wind-Adjusted Distance Calculator shows how current wind conditions at a specific course affect your shot distances. Enter your typical club distance, and it factors in the real-time wind speed and direction to estimate adjusted carry distance and lateral drift. It helps with club selection so you can plan smarter shots even in windy conditions.
The Green Speed Estimate predicts putting conditions based on weather factors like humidity, dew point, temperature, and time since sunrise (which affects morning dew burn-off). Wetter, cooler mornings tend to slow greens, while dry afternoon conditions speed them up. This estimate helps you adjust your putting approach before you even reach the course.
Tap 'Best Near Me' and Golfer WX uses your device's GPS location to find nearby golf courses with the best current Golfability scores. It ranks courses by weather conditions so you can quickly see which course near you has the most favorable weather right now-perfect for spontaneous rounds or choosing between local options.
Yes! Golfer WX includes an interactive weather radar map that shows real-time precipitation around any course location. You can see incoming rain or storms and track their movement, which is especially useful for monitoring weather during your round or deciding whether to head out.
Tap the search box on the Golfer WX home page and the golf courses nearest to you appear instantly using your device's location-no typing required. As you start entering a name, matching courses are ranked by distance so the closest results come first. You can also use 'Best Near Me' to rank nearby courses by their current Golfability score instead of distance.
Yes. Every course page includes a 7-day Golfability calendar that scores each of the next seven days and highlights the single best day to play. It's the fastest way to plan your week-glance at the calendar to spot the day with the most favorable temperature, wind, and precipitation outlook for that specific course.
The best weather for golf includes temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C), light winds under 10 mph, no precipitation, low UV index, and moderate humidity (40-60%). These conditions allow for comfortable play and predictable ball flight. Golfer WX summarizes all of this into a single Golfability score so you don't have to check multiple weather sources.
Golfer WX pulls real-time data from the Open-Meteo professional weather API, updating conditions every 15 minutes. Current conditions and the next 24 hours of hourly forecasts are highly accurate (90%+). The 48-hour hourly forecast remains very reliable, while the 14-day extended outlook provides a solid general trend that sharpens as each day approaches.
Wind has a major impact on golf. Headwinds reduce carry distance and may require extra club, while tailwinds add distance. Crosswinds push the ball left or right. Golfer WX factors wind into every Golfability score, and the Wind-Adjusted Distance Calculator on each course page lets you see exactly how the current wind changes your expected shot distances.
It depends on location and season, but generally early morning (6-9 AM) offers cooler temps and calmer winds, while late afternoon (3-6 PM) provides pleasant conditions as heat fades. Instead of guessing, use the Optimal Play Window on any course page-it analyzes the full hourly forecast and pinpoints the best tee-off window for that specific course and day.
